Turn your beach vacation photos into a beautiful piece of art to treasure forever. What a great gift idea to that person who has everything. I choose the Nautical Chart of the coastline of your choice and paint on heavy watercolor paper with gouache paints.
Commissioned piece to remember the memories of their grandchildren on vacation on Anna Maria Island.
Beautiful gifts to be cherished forever of your pet that are hand painted in hand made soft pastels.
A girlfriend from high school commissioned me to create a piece of art of her best friend, Trace. Trace had passed over The Rainbow Bridge and so we had to work from photos she had. Her favorite photo, unfortunately, was of low quality to paint from on a large scale. (The dog in the middle with the ball in his mouth.) I ended up painting him with gouache paint vs the soft pastels that I used on the rest of the piece. I can’t get that kind of detail in pastels. She also supplied me with photos of the many bandanas that he wore. The piece, 20” x 16” turned out great.
Perfectly posed pets! All I need is a good photo of each that will work when drawn beside each other.
I was so excited to receive a call from a customer who used me a few years ago to draw their beautiful Golden Retrievers. A husband decided to surprise his wife for Christmas with an updated portrait since the dogs have aged some. I love doing the dogs in such an un-posed position.

Charlie was sadly missed after crossing the Rainbow Bridge. A wife commissioned this piece for her husband for Christmas!
I met Luke and his mommie at the park to take pictures of him to work from. He was such a good boy! I still took about 150 shots to pick our favorite from.
Toby has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. A friend wanted to do this for another friend and they only had to photos to work from in which the lighting and resolution was not the best. I worked very hard on this one to hopefully bring happiness to the owner of Toby once they receive this piece.
Meet sweet Dallas. She is very old and may not be around much longer. A friend commissioned me to do this for her friend who adores his sweet girl.
This was a unique gift that an ex husband was buying for his kids to give his ex wife. Very nice!
A beautiful note I received from the recipient of this piece.
Hi!
I just wanted to thank you for the beautiful picturethat you painted of my dog, Holly, You captured the look that she carrries with her all the time. When Kari gave it to me yesterday, I was overwhelmed and the tears of joy were flowing. I will treasure it always as a reminder of the happiness that she continuallybrings into my life.
Sincerely,
Cheryl
Taylor is a sweet lady that is 18 years old. She took her back brace off that she wears for this portrait. She's a great girl with a beautiful big pink smile!
Getting photos separately of each dog and positioning together for a great painting was a fun challenge!
Peanut was difficult to get to sit still for a great portrait but WE DID IT! She was done at a larger size of 16" x 20" and turned out beautiful. The owner requested the background to fit well with the colors of her home.
Danny & Hogan are going to be a Christmas surprise for their mom! Their daddy had to go to great lengths to get a great photo of them off of their mommie's computer while she was at work!
Mickey was such a good boy posing for his portrait!
Leroy has his mommie's heart with this sweet look in his eyes.
Paisley loves his mommie and daddy but she really loves and watches over her baby Logan!
Shelby has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and the family did not have many photos of her. This was a surprise gift from a mother and father to their daughter who had lost her fur-iend.
Can't get any sweeter than this!
Beautiful Chloe has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Her mommie had this portrait done to cherish her memories!

These two sweeties have both crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. They are forever remembered int this 16" x 20" painting!

Creating beautiful paintings using soft hand made pastels.

This is "Dolf"! He was a gift from one girlfriend to another! Can't get any better than that!
Creating beautiful paintings using soft hand made pastels.
Summer was a Christmas gift from a daughter to her mother. They could not decide which photo they loved best so we decided a collage would work the best.
Earl Grey's mom had this to say about him.
"Oh honey!!!! My Earl Grey is the bomb!!!! His momma's name was I'm a Lil Teapot (I'ma for short!) so Earl grey was perfect! He was gifted to me from a girl in New Jersey after the Sandy Hook shootings and I was looking for a "comfort cat"! This girl also owned a dance studio and taught 6 yr olds and was deeply moved by the fact that a number of the little girls who were shot took dance. She wanted to give back----boy did she!!!! He is the absolute light of our lives!!"
I can use a Nautical chart of your favorite coastlines and add what you want! It could be the lighthouse as shown here or the beach house! Make it your own! Tell me what you want and we will make it happen.
My cousin’s husband commissioned me to paint their new home that sits right on Neptune Beach, Florida. His love of Mermaids enhanced the piece. There is a mermaid in the background Nautical Chart pointing to their home location along with another mermaid with the coordinates of the home.
I can take the nautical chart of the coastlines you enjoy and add anything to it. Pictured here is the Sanibel Lighthouse on Sanibel Captiva Island in Florida.
Your favorite vacation spots can be created into a piece of artwork that is painted just for you!
Imagine YOUR boat painted on a Nautical Chart of the waters you travel. What a wonderful unique piece of art!
This piece was done for a son to give to his father. This particular piece is done in gouache paint, which is basically opaque watercolors.

Here are some tips to achieve a great photo to send in for your painting.
THIS IS A LOW RESOLUTION FILE. A simple way to check you photo is to enlarge it on your computer. If it becomes blurry like this, then you know it is not acceptable.
THIS IS A HIGH RESOLUTION FILE. You can see the difference when this was enlarged it did not become digitized and blurry. This is what must be emailed for the best quality painting to be accomplished. The high resolution file is the one that comes straight from your camera and emailed. Files taken from Facebook and such places are not workable because the files become reduced in size.
This photo is too far away.
We want to see the wiskers and each hair! This photo enlarged would have poor quality. Move in closer to your pet so your pet fills the image screen of your camera.
Get as close as you can and just as important get on the same level as your pet. Do not be looking down onto your pet. This shot is good for a close up head and partial neck shot.
This is a good distance for a full body shot but could show more of the body if it was not straight on and shot more with a 3/4 view.
This would not be a good choice. Dog needs to really fill the screen of your camera when you are shooting. This shot shown would of been better if closer and down more on dogs level. Lighting is a bit harsh in this photo as well.
This photo shows entire body in a comfortable natural position for the dog. It is quite alright if there is a person in the picture holding the dog in position for photo. Do not let your hand be in front to the dog in any way.
My customers are always so excited to see their finished piece of art. Many people use this for a GIFT! They know giving such a personal gift will always be treasured!!
Life long friends receive a piece of my art. They are just too precious!!
My childhood friend Cindy, from Charleston, West Virginia, ordered this for her daughter as soon as she saw I was doing Commissioned Art.
Chloe looks awesome framed up and sitting high on the mantle! What a great gift and keepsake!
Who doesn't like this exuberant reaction from Linsey! I've watched it a dozen times smiling as large as I can!
Sweet Chloe has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. She was a Christmas gift for the family to always cherish the memories of her.
Mickey's mommie saw my work at Sarasota Animal Hospital and called me. We struggled getting a photo and I live just down the street so it was a pleasure for me to run over and take 50 or 60 pics hoping for just one good one! We did it! The photo is the hardest part but you have to start with a great image to get a great painting. I fell in love with Mickey. I love Schnauzers! He had such beautiful brown tones in his hair and such a good boy!
This commission came about after they saw Dolf, the Friesian horse. They are from Charleston, West Virginia, where I was born and raised. This was going to be a gift for the daughter and then when they saw the completed piece they changed gears and became a gift for their grandmother. This piece also took center stage on the family room mantle. As I progressed through this painting I began to realize that our two families have known each other for years and years. This makes it extra special to be a part of their family room!!
This was one very happy customer with tears filling her eyes!
From one girlfriend to another this was a gift. This is a Friesian Horse. He is pretty much black except with light hitting on him he does become shades of Burnt Umber. Beautiful horse and was a huge surprise happy gift!
Champ has the cutest little story behind it. My sister and I were JUST LOOKING at a Pet Store puppies. This lively bubbly young beautiful blonde who worked there got talking to me. One thing led to another and I started advertising myself! She got so excited and wanted to do this for her boyfriend for Christmas. We went back and forth trying to get a good photo. That seems to be the toughest part. This was probably the first photo she sent and I told her to keep trying. Well, look what I did! I think it turned out awesome. I worked and worked on this to convey the black shiny dog Champ is. Sometimes it's hard to do a solid color dog. My son who is an amazing artist kept saying, "Never use Black mom!" He's right although I did put some black into this. Love how it turned out. Can't wait to see it framed.
Taylor is the pet of my vet, Dr. Mark at Sarasota Animal Hospital. He loved my work and got all three of his dogs portraits. I think he was very pleased. He was also generous enough to display my work in his front office along with my business cards and information. I am very appreciative of this.
Shelby has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge but will certainly be remembered with this painting.
Leroy was my first dog portrait. I did him small and realized that working a little larger comes out nicer. This is a great friend, Morgan, from Richmond, Virginia who has been a great Rep for me and my work. Thank you Mo-gan!! (I call her this because a special little girl name Presley pronounced her name this way and it just stuck with me. ....Imagine that!!)
Daisy is a Happy Customer from Charlotte, NC!!
While being raised in the hills of Charleston, WV, family vacations formed my love for the beach. I never wanted my vacations to end. Fond memories of those times have inspired the hints of coastal life in many of my pieces. I currently live in sunny Florida. Living in a beach town has inspired my coastal themes even more!
My love of drawing and painting led me to study Graphic Design and Advertising at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, which gave me the opportunity to design print advertising in Charleston, WV and Houston, TX.
After a decade of raising my two sons, I re-entered the workforce designing decorative flags, home decor and garden products in Richmond, VA. Though I get very excited to create something fresh and new for the seasonal art and no longer live in Virginia, my art continues to be influenced by my memories of my flower gardens and bird feeders. In some cases you will find scenes from my old back yard!
